WARNING! GRAPHIC!

A mechanic standing near a Boeing 737 at El Paso International Airport in Texas was sucked into one of the engines and killed Monday, officials said.

Continental Airlines Flight 1515 was preparing to take off for Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston when “a maintenance-related engine run-up of the right-hand engine” was carried out, said Roland Herwig, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration’s southwest region in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“Someone on the ground was sucked into the engine,” he said.

In a written statement, Continental Chairman and CEO Larry Kellner said the person killed was a mechanic who worked for one of the airline’s suppliers.

Obi Wan after he found out I couldn't find my database.

Hey everyone. As you may have noticed we’ve had a slight glitch over the past few days.

Our OOPS! graphic won the day for us though, and it allowed me to do some much needed maintenance so not all was lost.

Just a quick update on what’s happened so far.

The Adventure Starts

At 1 AM last night (Wednesday) I was just saving my last document my wordpress suddenly cut out from underneath me and reported back with the installation screen. Being on a notoriously bad connection I’ve had problems before, but never this. I tried logging into my phpmyadmin account on our webhost and saw with my own disbelieving eyes that the database with all our info was missing. In its place was a hole of information.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if  33 million bytes suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

Obi-wan’s reaction to me telling him about my database going missing

The Hero Encounters Difficulty

Now the trouble is: I am at my parents-in-law having a blast, so I don’t really have time or to be frank bandwidth to spend here.

I get my internet from what is essentially a 1 person wireless repeater which in turn is linked to a BT hub across a busy street. Cars, vans and sometimes even lorries block the signal with a wall of steel when they come racing past or delivering something down the road. When someone down the street opens a door I get a worse signal! Needless to say I had trouble even loading a page, never mind trying to figure out what was going on with the website.

The Hapless Hero Enlists Obi-Wan

I grappled with the problem, even going as far as going across the street this morning to find out if I could access my server at home to get at the databases or get more information from the logs. I discovered quickly that the database wasn’t just dropped. I can’t create a new one with the same name.

This probably means that the actual file containing the information (in /var/mysql/  or whatever) is still there, but corrupted somehow. Unfortunately that prevents me from working so I decided to upload a backup I had lying around on my development laptop into a different database – and that’s where you are now.

I’ve contacted the hosting provider Obi-Wan for more information and a bit of help resetting the mysql database and checking the mysql file. In the mean time I’ll have to bore you another way.

The Hero Wins?

Who knows what’ll happen now. It could repeat itself, in which case the hero will have to start looking for a different hosting provider with the help of his friends Sir Pay Pal and Sir Google AdSense. In any case there’s a blog which, despite missing some articles, is pretty much the same as the old one. Now all that is left to do for the Hero is to recover Princess SQL and her droid L0G-F1L3 or wait for help from Obi-wan. Whichever one’s faster really.

To Be Continued…

Why Larry? Because this site looks like a redneck on a Sunday morning.

After a great New Year party at home with the wife and a week recovery from the nasty flu that I managed to get it’s back to the old grind for sn0r. I, despite being between jobs, have a lot to do.

For one, I’m flying to Japan on the first of Next month with my sister to go visit old friends and old haunts like my primary schools there and our favourite shrines and shops. We’ll be staying at friends of the family while trekking and I plan to keep a detailed blog for my fans.
By the way… if any of you know of any cool places for me to dine, let me know. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve been to Tokyo so I’m almost 100% sure my old favourite restaurants in Shiroganedai and Shinjuku will have been closed or moved.

Also, I was speaking with my nephew (or is it cousin – i can’t remember: the Dutch language makes no distinction between the two and I’ve got a mind like a sivve) who wasn’t happy with the site layout and we both came to the conclusion the new website update was shit. So back to the drawing board for me. :) I hope to finish it by the time I leave for Nihon-land. In the meanwhile you’ll have to be patient with my slow updates.

Cheers!

Well, here I am folks. As you’ve no doubt seen I am not posting new videos at the moment or generally doing much with the site.

Currently I am visiting the in-laws and am busy helping Peter, my dad-in-law, clean out the big cast-iron radiators in a West London appartment for shits and giggles. Now before you point and laugh, let me explain how incredibly manly and macho cleaning out radiators like those really is.

To clean out a heating system you have to isolate the radiators from the system, drain each radiator of all water, hammer in plugs, carry the things out of the house and flush it with water after taking the plugs out again. Yes, usually that can be done with chemicals, but since the old radiators are often clogged up they push rust and dirt around the system. And they’re cast iron radiators, thus as heavy as a Japanese Sumo Wrestler, we’re carrying the things outside on trolleys. A hellish job in the near freezing weather conditions which England is suffering through right now. It is nice working outside though and I’m learning a bit of plumbing while I’m at it.

Anyway, I’ll be writing articles intermittently and publishing some videos when I can because of this job. This is where you all come in. If you have a video or an article you want written about, please leave a suggestion in the comments and I’ll include them on the website whenever I have time.

Cheers!

Sn0r.
