Dark Orbit – The Lowdown
I had originally written a draft about Dark Orbit but it turned out to be so in-depth and complex that I had to scrap it as DO is not worth all thoes precious words.
Basically it’s a pew pew game. You start of with a ship and fly around the universe which is split up into 3 factions; Mars – the haters of the universe, Earth – the resource whores and Venus – the hippies.
You collect stuff whilst flying around, complete missions, blow up other players and npcs for cash and items and you keep going until you’ve either worked your way to to the top, (getting the best ship with the best ammo, all the best shields, drones, weaponary you can)… OR you give up because you just realise it has nothing more to offer.
At this point you’ve probably guessed I’m already bored of it, and you’d be right – though it did take at least 2 weeks to get to the point of extreme boredom, I’ve only just touched the surface of what is possible.
Like most of the browser games there is a duel currency system; Credits you get for free and Uridium which you can either pay for out of your own pocket or collect in-game at a very slow pace. With this wonga you buy ships, ammo and the rest.
Below are screenies depicting the starter location for Venus, the bonus boxes which give you goodies, ( little square glowing things), a jump portal, (you use this to enter other maps), and lastly the entire star system used in DO; bottom right – Venus, middle right – Earth and top right – Mars.
The only real feature of the game I liked was the fact that you could also use the Russian alphabet in character naming… lots of fun to be had there.
Some of the names I conjured up were: ҒΣΜ♥ĿΣ♥ТΦΚΣЯ♥1975, ТΦΚІИĞ~ΚΛΤFΛСΣ´75 and Kişş´MΨ´WĦάŤ – Oh the joy!
In short, though, killing and buying stuff is all you do.
The End
Ps. Leave a comment if you wish to see my FULL review and I shall place it somewhere at sometime. It’s basically an instruction manual.
