Italians be banned.

Published by sn0r under Site News

Fuck you italians.Wave ciao-a-tutti to the Italians. Despite many years of trying to at least get along with our Italian joiners it has been made very apparent that nothing has changed since the Italians had quit history with an End of Rome error. Italians are now banned from the chat channel indefinitely.

Let me name the litany of offences the Italian IRC Mafia has committed so far:

  • Losing their rags and spouting abuse.
  • Losing their rags and spouting abuse in Italian.
  • Losing their rags and spouting coloured abuse in Italian. (notice a pattern emerging?)
  • DDOS-ing members and owners
  • Breaking every rule in the book repeatedly.

To our Italian friends abroad: I’m very sorry I have to do this to you. We get the same tiring and trite abuse day after day, and as you know it hasn’t been easy. We have tried to see the Mafiosi for what and who they are, not blaming you for the errors of your countrymen. That has come to an end now. Over 90% of the abuse is committed by your countrymen, and while we are not in the business of collective punishment, we believe this step is the only way of keeping the channel the way we want it. After the latest spate of DDOS attacks against [dille], osi, myself and many others I have unilaterally decided to ban all of you.

The ban will be removed at an unspecified time in the future. Don’t count on days, count on months to years.

So, in conclusion I’d just like to state: Fuck you again, Italians. You are no longer welcome.

The updates are almost done

Published by sn0r under Site News

Lolcat Popup

Well, folks. It’s been an interesting few weeks with interesting new stuff happening. As you’re all aware, I’m moving house and so I’ve been moving the website. Here’s what’s happened so far:

  • Laagje’s kindly provided us with webspace for our site. All hail Laagje.
  • The Gallery’s done now. You can upload to your hearts content
  • The IRC Quotes page is working nicely
  • The Cool websites category has been replaced by the ‘Internet History’ category for our most memorable moments and memes. I will be reposting certain IH articles from my old blog as well.
  • I’m still writing the FAQ, which should be done by this weekend.
  • Dogbert’s still around every now and then. He’ll be offline permanently from this weekend on.

And that’s about it! I’m ready to move to the UK, so once I leave you all will be ‘in charge’ for a while. I’ll pop in every now and then of course, so feel free to leave me a message if you have issues.

The Last Mile

Published by sn0r under Site News

Hello again everybody.

I’ve been working on the website again, to prepare it for the upcoming move to Laagje’s server. Here are the changes as I have been able to implement them so far:

  • The Quotes database has been disconnected from Dogbert. !quote, !addquote and !delquote no longer work [Edit: until Dogbert returns, that is].
  • If you are a contributor you can submit quotes to the database via the IRC Quotes page. Admins and Editors have the right to remove them.
  • The Statistics have been disconnected and will be kept as-is until Dogbert returns.
  • The read-along feature in the IRC-FAQ has been stopped and will be kept as-is until Dogbert returns.
  • Users can upload pictures to the User Galleries. Subscribers will have their images stored in the noob gallery. Contributors and above will have full access to the gallery options in the dashboard.

That’s about it. More to come tomorrow when I implement the last of the changes.

And we’re back!

Published by sn0r under Site News, Videos

Crazy dude at the airport?Hi again everybody!!1!!1one!!

We’re back from the dead after a stressful evening of working on the gallery, the video plugin, the overall interface and the ‘old content’.

As you can see it was a harrowing experience indeed.

These are the changes so far:

  • The forum is gone. Dead. Maybe it’ll be back. Who knows.
  • The image database has been replaced by the ‘User Galleries‘. This uses the NextGen plugin, written by Alex Rabe. I plan to build on this a bit later. For those that are worried about their precious comments or ratings: don’t. I still have all the data of the old site. Don’t be such a bitch. Also, expect teething problems.
  • The interface has been adjusted to these changes. The double menu bar has been removed and has become one single transparent line.
  • There is a new video plugin for you to use with 4 new sites whose embedding code is now integrated into the plugin. See the Featured Streams in the sidebar for a list of all of them.
  • The pages having to do with IRC have been renamed.
  • The Read Along page has been remodelled into the ‘IRC-FAQ‘ pending our bot Dogberts ‘holiday’.

In short, lots of changes in a short while. I’ll keep you posted on further changes happening to the site and yes I am writing a how-to for contributors, authors and editors.

In the meanwhile, enjoy this little gem from Funnyordie.com…

Forum removal and image database change

Published by sn0r under Site News

Due to the move to the UK and with approval from the owners I am consolidating access to the image gallery and removing the forum.

Until I return the following changes have been made (and might be kept, depending on if they’re accepted well).

  • Contributors can upload images to the galleries and create galleries.
  • There is no more forum. Forum Images can be found in the Old Images gallery.
  • Moderators (Authors and Editors in the weblog) can manage galleries.
  • The Forum has been removed. All posts have been kept on backup. Requests for reposts on the weblog will be considered on a case by case basis.
  • Individual users can not upload images.

Expect downtime pending the changeover on the 28th-29th of January.

:]

Kind regards,

Bouz.

Updated sidebar widgets

Published by sn0r under Site News

I’ve added a sidebar widget which displays the supported video sites by the video plugin. You can find it at the bottom.

I’ve also upgraded the voteitup script and my own Karma sidebar widget. They now display the karma stats a bit better, and show 5 entries instead of 3.

Arrr.

Site update

Published by sn0r under Site News

Hey all!

As you can see, I have published some changes to the site. ‘What have you done!’, you scream. Well I have …

  • added a new header / logo. As per usual, vidar is hiding in it. It’s an old English Slave fort in Africa.
  • made it possible for you to vote on the ‘karma’ of an article! Check the comments section of each post.
  • made it so the NSFW posts do not show up any more when you view the front page either.
  • added a little text to the Registration page to give people guidance. Check it here.

Another successful update, I’d say. What’s your opinion?

Edit: Found a flaw in the karma mod and my spelling. Fixed it now. Not so successful maybe?

Off for the winter

Published by sn0r under Site News

Like a bear in hibernation, I am off for the winter.

Polar Bear

My wife and I have decided to move to the U.K. to continue our careers there, without the Dutch. The weblog will remain online and available throughout my move (thanks to Laagje), while the Forum will be offline for at least a month until I can pay for a proper connection to offer it on.

So, this is it. Wish me luck and a happy start to the new year for you all!

P.S. I’m currently looking for jobs in the U.K., so any tips would be welcome. As you can see, I am a fully qualified Network and systems admin, as well as OO-LAMP (Object Oriented Linux Apache MySQL PHP) developer with 6 years of on the job experience and training.

Contact me in the comments if you have a job for me! :]

New Category! General Mayhem!

Published by sn0r under Site News

Hello again everyone!

I added a new category named General Mayhem to the site for all your general stuff and posts that can’t be classified as articles or site news.

I’ve moved some posts into it it as well, so you can see what to expect.

Enjoy!
