Yes, it was bound to happen. Today’s idiot is the International Olympic Committee. After giving the Olympics to China and then to London they were expecting a good olympic spirit. Neither decision really went well, did it?

Giving the olympics to China was the most stupid decision of the two, however. Let’s sum up the faults in their thinking:

• Wow, China is perfect. I bet Beijing will be the ideal place! - No it isn’t! They have more pollution in Beijing than anywhere in the far east. The Olympic favorite for the marathon bowed out after fears for his health due to the smog in the capital. As BBCs comic radio 4 show ‘the Now Show’ put it: the marathon has now been dubbed: FIND THE STADIUM.
• I bet they will improve their human rights now we’ve given them the chance! - They haven’t, have they? Apart from shooting protesters, locking up monks in their monasteries without food or water and failing to uphold agreements made regarding press freedoms they’ve actually stepped up attempts to curtail the freedom of information by arresting the most prominent activists for human rights in China and locking them up. Not to mention using child labor for their official merchandising.
• Well, that doesn’t really matter. Everyone will rally around the Olympic Flame as a symbol of sportsmanship and peace anyway! - Oh really.. do tell. The last I heard the the torch bearers got assaulted in London and the Olympic flame was extinguished due to massive protests in Paris! The Chinese are of course blaming the Dalai Lama and what they call ’separatists’.

In short: Today’s total incompetent sniveling idiots are the IOC. Well done, lads. You’ve turned a world wide spectacle into a bad joke. Reporters without borders sums it up best in my opinion:

Russian dissident Vladimir Bukovsky’s outraged comment about the holding of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow - “Politically, a grave error; humanly, a despicable act; legally, a crime” - remains valid for 2008.
