How’s that for energy-effecient lighting?

We already know that good old light bulbs are very inefficient — they turn much of the supplied energy into heat instead of light — and that LED lighting is the way of the future. Well, maybe not just yet. Luxim is working on a plasma light that is even more efficient than LED, about twice as efficient actually. The “light bulb” is only slightly bigger than a LED, and it doesn’t need all the electronics that LEDs require.

Check out the enlightening video on ZDnet.

I’ve often wondered about the efficiency of lightbulbs and such. Let’s hope the big producers of lightbulbs like Philips take notice.

This is great stuff! We’re starting to see more and more new technologies coming out that make it easier for industrial users to go green. This ranges from high output T5 lighting fixutres to 1W LED-based PAR bulbs. These guys are going to be at Lightfair in May. We’ll have to check them out.

@bouzo: Oh, Philips takes notice, don’t worry. =]
