Dogbert. Ready and waiting.

Let’s get this straight: who is Dogbert? He’s been mentioned a few times on the website, and I’m sure many of you have never heard of him before.

Dogbert is the creation by Scott Adams of the Dilbert comic strips. Wikipedia notes:

He is a megalomaniac; one of his dreams is to conquer the world and enslave all humans, and he has achieved this status several times through methods such as hypnosis and masquerading. However, he often quickly relinquishes his post due to boredom, someone foiling his chance, his conviction that people do not deserve to have him as leader due to the ongoing peace that results, or his desire to go nap on a soft pillow.

There’s a Dilbert Animated Cartoon series that figures him prominently as well. Here’s a sample:

Dogbert Speaks

Dogbert is also our friendly guard-dogbot on #English. We’ve lived with him for years, and have grown fond of his ‘loving touch’.

Angry Dogbert.Dogbert’s been banning Italians and creeping people out with his various functions for since 2003. For the young IRC squirts amongst you, he was named quotes until about June 2005, when his nickname got hijacked during my move to a new apartment. Such is life on IRCnet.

He’s stopped the quoting as well recently. This due to my move to the UK. I thought I’d have to throw him offline for a while, but I decided against the reduction of the services of #English and bought a shell. I did have to relinquish the seen database, but I will implement another one forthwith.

The current functions as of this post are:

  • Google Searches (!google the subject)
  • Google Images (!image the image)
  • Googlefights (!fight one vs the other)
  • Youtube Searches (!youtube the clip)
  • IMDB Searches (!imdb the movie)
  • Weather Report (!w city country)
  • Weather Forecast (!fc city country)
  • Sky report (!sky city country)
  • Country Lookup (!country country)

Expect more features on Dogbert soon as well. What they’ll be is still a secret.

Rock on, Dogbert!
