A new social networking alternative has sprung up as response to the lovey-dovey Facebook site. It’s called Hatebook.
![]()
Hatebook’s front page states:
Hatebook is an anti-social utility that connects you with the people YOU HATE. Everybody loves to HATE.
You can invite enemies, set up hate and homie lists, end friendships, see photos of them and be a total bastard about a lot more. Perfect for all us internet haters. Click here to visit Hatebook.

This ad was published by the Roads and Traffic Authority in New South Wales, Australia. Apparently it’s caused male drivers to think twice about being antisocial in traffic.. by seriously questioning their manhood.
The ad is part of a clamp down on antisocial driving by young people. BBC News reports:
In a government-commissioned survey, about 60% of young men said the ad had made them ponder their driving habits.

Valleywag.com published an interesting article titled ‘The pledge to not suck at the Internet’.
It is basicly a pledge to not be a dick online. I suggest you read this very funny piece. While you’ll probably know most of the basic ‘rules’ of dealing with each other online it’s still an interesting read.
A quote from the article:
I, (your name or handle here, unless it contains a year other than your birth year, the word “sux,” or the number 69 — in these cases you’re not yet ready for the pledge), pledge that:
I will never comment on a blog saying “Why do we care?” because if I don’t care, I can go away from the blog. Instead I will sit back and have a good five-minute think about my life.

The New Scientist magazine published a study of how it feels to die. Since we’re a rather morbid bunch anyway, I thought it would interest our regular readers a bit to find out for themselves.
The article collates stories and experiences of survivors and shows us the experience of dieing (hopefully) a long time before we’ll actually have the opportunity to experience it.
Ms. A. Gosline, the author of the piece takes us through a list of possible deaths from the burning experience of drowning to a good and wholesome beheading.

We’ve heard all the jokes about Soviet Russia, but who came up with the joke anyway? Turns out it’s a Russian immigrant living in the USA. Yakov Smirnoff emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1977, becoming a citizen in 1984.

He was a room-mate of A.D. Clay, the famously rude and crass comedian, and started his own brand of stand up comedy. Although it has been quite some time since Mr. Smirnoff has been touring, his jokes live on across the internet in the form of the Russian Reversal joke.
Wikipedia notes:
Russian reversal is a type of joke popularized by Smirnoff. The general form of the Soviet Russia joke is that the subject and objects of a statement are reversed, and “In Soviet Russiaâ€, or something equivalent, is added. For example:
- In the US, you catch a cold.
- In Soviet Russia, cold catches you!
- In the US, you can always find a party.
- In Soviet Russia, the Party finds you!
Although Mr. Smirnoff has lost his superstar status his jokes live on through 3nglish.co.uk and thousands of meme websites.

More information on Yakov is available on his website.
